Contract Description:  The Powerdale Dam Fish Facility (PDFF) is located at Powerdale Dam (river mile 4.0) on the Hood River.  The dam in conjunction with the PDFF form a barrier to upstream fish passage, all upstream migrant fish are redirects into the PDFF where they are individually sampled.  The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) began collecting life history and escapement data on upstream migrant salmonids at Powerdale Dam in 1991.  The current PDFF was completed in 1997.  The ODFW will be responsible for conducting all phases of the trap operation, including: trapping and anesthetizing all upstream migratory fish, gathering life history data from each fish captured, collecting broodstock for steelhead and spring chinook programs, transporting fish to the adult holding facility or other release sites, and providing maintenance of the facility, grounds, and roads.  Operation of the PDFF requires close coordination with several other BPA funded projects associated with the Hood River Production Project (HRPP), and PacifiCorps which operates the Powerdale Dam.  In addition, several other BPA funded projects rely on data and fish collected from the PDFF to accomplish project objectives (1988-053-06, 1988-053-04, 1988-053-03, 1988-053-07, 2003-054-00).  The overall implementation of the HRPP is jointly managed by the by ODFW and Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon.
