Contract Description:
The goal of the Grande Ronde Basin Spring Chinook Salmon Captive Broodstock Program is to prevent extinction and preserve the genetic resources of the spring Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha populations in Catherine Creek, upper Grande Ronde River and Lostine River, Oregon.  We believe it prudent to continue captive broodstock programs for Catherine Creek, upper Grande Ronde River and Lostine River Chinook salmon populations and to continue adult collection for a conventional hatchery program as numbers of returning salmon permit.  The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) component of the Grande Ronde Basin Captive Broodstock Program is comprised of five groups, Research, Fish Health, Bonneville Fish Hatchery, Wallowa Fish Hatchery and Fish Transport, that coordinate to collect, rear and spawn, transport and maintain the health of the captive broodstock salmon, as well as evaluate the program.  Objectives and budgets for these groups are provided separately.
