Contract Description:
Recovery of Wind River wild steelhead is a centerpiece of the aquatics program at the Mt Adams Ranger District on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  Watershed assessment and monitoring in the Wind River have lead to a multifaceted restoration program that has been underway for over a decade.  The USFS has worked cooperatively with partner agencies to develop a comprehensive program to meet the goal of restoring wild steelhead in the Wind River watershed.  The USFS has played a key role in the following:
1. Restoration  - rehabilitating watershed form, function, and natural process.
2. Coordination - participating in a multi-agency, private and tribal effort to bring together a coordinated approach to watershed restoration.
3. Assessment - diagnosing watershed health and developing a sound and science-based restoration plan.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation - measuring the response of biological and physical watershed indicators to change.
5. Environmental Education - promoting watershed stewardship amongst the community and sharing the technical details of our restoration efforts.

The Wind River Restoration Team (WRRT) is a partnership that has grown for over a decade, originating from a nucleus of key members including Underwood Conservation District (UCD), Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), US Geological Service (USGS), and the US Forest Service.   The WRRT is in its seventh year of cooperative funding from Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
