Contract Description:
The purpose for this amendment is to address unspent funds in 2014 due to multiple factors. The Tribal Wildlife Program manager resigned in late August and wasn’t replaced until middle of October. The seasonal staff hired for the fencing repair didn’t stay at Logan Valley and the camp per-diem was unused. We had also overestimated cost for vehicle maintenance, nursery establishing willow plants and fuel use in 2014. This will provide an excellent opportunity to acquire equipment for mowing noxious weeds, mowing grass around structures on the property for fire protection, cleaning irrigation ditches and other uses that might require a tractor.

The tractor and mower will be purchased under WE Q Weed Control, Milestone D purchase tractor and mower.

_________________________________
The Logan Valley was purchased in April 2000 to compensate, in part, for the loss of fish and wildlife resources in the Columbia and Snake River Basins. The project allows the Tribe to manage 1,760 acres of meadow, wetland, and sagebrush steppe habitats within the headwaters of the Malheur River.  The property includes significant stretches of Big and Lake Creeks and hosts key habitat for bull trout.  The project is also benefiting other populations of fish, wildlife, and plant species.  General objectives include reviving and improving critical habitat for fish and wildlife populations, controlling/ eradicating weed populations, improving water quality, and preserving cultural resources.

In 2014, this contract will allow the Burns Paiute Tribe to conduct the following management activities: complying with cultural resource and ESA requirements, improving existing vegetation communities, identifying and controlling noxious weeds, performing upland and riparian plantings, maintenance activities, providing access, and education/coordination with tribal, government and general public parties.
