Fiscal Year 2018 contract tasks include:
-Estimate run year 2018 adult spring Chinook and hatchery winter steelhead returns.
-Develop spring Chinook harvest recommendation.
-Monitor and estimate 2018 tribal harvest at Punchbowl Falls.
-Determine BY 16 hatchery smolt out migration timing.
-Document run year 2018 spring Chinook spawning locations, timing and success.
-Conduct juvenile Chinook salmon distribution surveys to document recolonization of the basin.
-Estimate spring Chinook salmon parr densities in the West Fork.
-Measure river flows and water temperatures throughout the Hood River basin.
-Reconstruct run year 2017 harvest and escapement.
-Estimate the capture efficiency of the adult fish trap Moving Falls Fish Facility (MFFF) for spring Chinook salmon.
-Assisting Parkdale Fish Hatchery staff with various fish culture activities including implementing natural feeding program.
-Install, maintain and operate PIT receivers in the basin.
-Verify steelhead race collected as winter steelhead using GSI.
-Collect genetic samples from resident O. mykiss to investigate genetic relatedness and interaction with anadromous summer and winter steelhead populations in the Hood River.
-Develop an anadromous fish re-introduction strategy for the Middle Fork above Clear Branch dam.
-Report fiscal and calendar year 2017 findings to BPA.

During FY 18 NOAA will contract with BPA using funds from this project to publish results of 2008-2012 comparative hatchery evaluations and winter steelhead residualism research:
Tasks include:
1.Publish spring Chinook paper #5: Evaluation of smolt quality of spring Chinook salmon reared at hatchery and acclimation sites in the Hood River, Oregon.
2. Provide assistance to HRPP with BY 16 and BY 17 spring Chinook precocity estimates for fish reared at PFH and Round Butte Hatchery/Pelton Ladder.
