Contract Period: 01 April 2017 to 31 March 2018

STATEMENT OF WORK
FY 2017

Project Goal: Protect, conserve and enhance habitat values of the property for fish and wildlife.

Location of Project: The Forrest Conservation Area is located within the Upper John Day Basin in eastern Oregon. The Conservation Area consists of two parcels, (3,445 acres) along the upper Mainstem John Day River and (786 acres) along the Middle Fork John Day River. The Mainstem parcel is located a mile to the east of Prairie City and the Middle Fork parcel is located a half mile west of Bates, Oregon.

Discussion: The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Department of Natural Resources will manage, plan and coordinate for the protection and enhancement of fish and wildlife and their associated habitats. The ongoing operations for the 2017 contract period will entail property maintenance, resource monitoring, riparian grazing demonstration, water conservation methods, tribal/public access, and continued implementation of the property management plan. This year will also include Phase 1 channel restoration work that removes rip-rap sections along the MFFCA and adding large woody debris for habitat enhancement. Planning future restoration project phases will also continue with technical assistance from BOR to address MFFCA project work between the Vinegar creek and Caribou Creek of the Middle Fork John Day River.
