Project 1988-053-06
Hood River Production Program - Hatchery O&M
(Round Butte Hatchery - Pelton Ladder Extended Rearing Facilities)

ODFW subcontract work was part of the PGE contract until 30 Jun 2005.
This ODFW Contract will be separate for Jul 2005 - Sep 2006.

Program Objectives:  Consistent with PGE's Licensee's obligations under the Pelton Round Butte Settlement Agreement, The Settlement Agreement Fish Plan, and applicable FERC License Conditions, PGE shall complete the necessary actions, using Round Butte Hatchery and Pelton Ladder trap and rearing cell facilities, that will result in the rearing and release of about 225,000, age 1 plus, Deschutes River spring chinook smolts into the Deschutes and Hood River Basins.  This action will partially mitigate for the overall reduction in salmonids in the Columbia River Basin due to the construction and operation of hydro-power facilities.  One complete hatchery cycle (from trapping of broodstock to release of smolts from that broodstock) is about 18 months long.

Work Plan Objectives

The plan objectives are to initiate and complete the annual extended rearing activities in Pelton Ladder, identify and complete all O&M activities, continue routine hatchery operations (broodstock selection, spawning, incubation, rearing and disease control of spring chinook fingerlings), initiate necessary facility upgrades and continue routine ancillary actions.  Work items are presented below.

Deliverables

- Status reports need to be sent, either via e-mail or hard copy, whenever problems are encountered during the contract period (i.e.disease outbreaks or unexpected mortalities associated with hatchery fish).

- Brief summary report due at the end of the contract period, September 30, 2006, reporting the number of fish transferred to Pelton Ladder cells, the number of fish transferred to the Hood River, and the number of fish released into the Deschutes River.  Data will be collected for this report under the intital 3-month contact.  However, the report will be due under the 12-month contract period ending September 30, 2006.
