Contract Description:
AUTHORIZATION:
The Northwest Power Planning Council (NPPC) authorized construction of Nez Perce Tribal Hatchery facilities 17, May 2000, in Helena, MT.  Construction began July 2001 and was essentially completed in October 2002.  The hatchery was dedicated 9, October 2002.  Spring and fall Chinook salmon eggs were brought on-station, for incubation in October and all systems appeared to be functioning.
This statement of work and budget contain activities and costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the Nez Perce Tribal Hatchery and six satellite facilities.  Based on NPPC authorization for out-year operation and maintenance costs we are requesting the following:
FY2007 O&M budget:  $2,033,220 (new 2007 dollars).

2007 OBJECTIVES:
Broodstock development, for the Nez Perce Tribal Hatchery program, has continued by taking advantage of successful brood years and procuring gametes at State and Federal hatcheries in the Clearwater subbasin.
NPTH staff will transport to Site 1705 and hold for spawning up to 500 adults trapped at the Clearwater and Powell hatcheries.  In addition, NPTH staff will transport to Site 1705 and hold for spawning spring Chinook adults captured at Newsome and Lolo creek weirs in 2007. Green eggs will be incubated at Site 1705, resulting fry will receive early rearing at Site 1705 or Sweetwater Springs and then transferred to the Newsome Creek or Yoosa/Camp satellite facilities for final rearing and acclimation.
NPTH staff will transport approximately 750 adult fall Chinook from Lower Granite Dam to Nez Perce Tribal Hatchery in 2007.  In addition, the adult ladder at Site 1705 will be in operation from 20, August 2007, through early December to collect adult fall Chinook.  The BY2007 fall Chinook green egg take goal is 1.65 million.  Fall Chinook progeny from these eggs will receive final rearing at Cedar Flats, Lukes Gulch, NPTH / Site 1705 and North Lapwai Valley facilities and be released as sub-yearlings in May and June 2007.

In September 2007, 125,000 juvenile spring Chinook will be transferred from Clearwater Hatchery to the south acclimation pond at Site 1705.  The fish will be reared to "smolt" size and be directly released into the Clearwater River in late March or early April 2008.

In 2006, the Nez Perce Tribe initiated a Pacific Lamprey restoration initiative.  On December 4, 2006, the NPT transported 178 adult lampreys that were collected in the dewatered ladder at John Day Dam to Nez Perce Tribal Hatchery/Site 1705.  The lampreys were injected with oxytetracycline to control Furunculous and transferred into the M&E tanks located adjacent to the NATURES "S" channel release structure.  The NPT "Trout Ponds" program is responsible for the care and maintenance of these fish.  The adults will be held until April/May 2007, when the NPT will release them into selected streams to spawn naturally.

To summarize, the following numbers and groups of fish will be reared and/or released in 2007 through the NPTH program.

* 500,000 BY06 fall Chinook at Site 1705 - released into Clearwater River
* 500,000 BY06 fall Chinook at North Lapwai Valley facility - released into Lapwai Creek
*   25,000 BY06 fall Chinook at Cedar Flats Acclimation Facility - released into Selway River
*   25,000 BY06 fall Chinook at Lukes Gulch Acclimation Facility - released into South Fork Clearwater River
*   75,000 BY06 spring Chinook at Newsome satellite facility - released into Newsome Creek
40,000 BY06 spring Chinook -direct steam release into Meadow Creek/Selway
* 150,000 BY06 spring Chinook at Yoosa/Camp satellite facility - released into Lolo Creek
