Contract Description:
This contract is support for Data Management for Fish and Wildlife Habitat which is found within the Interactive Biodiversity Information System (IBIS) for the Columbia River Basin.  IBIS consists of terrestrial, resident and marine fish information.  It is comprised of over 150,000 records on over 1,000 fish and wildlife species and addresses species habitat needs, habitat mapping, species ranges, life histories, management activity influences, biotic functions, ecosystem services and allows geospatial depictions. The IBIS information was developed with the support of over 40 resource agencies and organizations. In 1995, the effort to collect and compile fish and wildlife information began, and in 1997 the first major milestone was reached with the publication of the book, Atlas of Oregon and Wildlife; in 2001 a second major milestone was reached with the publication of the book, Wildlife-Habitat Relationships in Oregon and Washington and the publication of an updated edition of the Atlas of Oregon Wildlife.  So far, over 700 people have participated in developing IBIS information.

IBIS is currently funded for maintenance and operation as a principal informational source for the Columbia River Basin, and is recognized as a "Core Program" for the Columbia River Basin by the Columbia Basin Fish and Wildlife Authority and the National Academy of Science's Independent Scientific Review Panel, as a "Key Informational Source" for the Northwest by National Biological Information Infrastructure, as "Best Available Science" by the Office of Community Development in Washington State, and as "Best Practices" by the Ash Institute-Harvard University.
