Project/Contract History:

The Nez Perce Tribe (NPT) Department of Fisheries Resource Management (DFRM)- Watershed Division and the Nez Perce National Forest (NPNF) have been working cooperatively in the area of watershed restoration since 1997.  In 2007, the first year of this project, the NPT and NPNF worked collaboratively to complete stream crossing assessments and the associated culvert replacement prioritization in the Little Slate Creek Subwatershed.  In 2008, the NPT and NPNF will work collaboratively to complete stream crossing assessments and the associated culvert replacement prioritization in the Mainstem Slate Creek Watershed.

This project has two BPA contracts, one with the Nez Perce Tribe, and this one which is with the USFS Nez Perce National Forest (NPNF).  The primary contract is with the Nez Perce Tribe.  This contract with the Nez Perce National Forest includes only the funding for a specific subcontract.  The Nez Perce National Forest, in addition to this direct contract with BPA, contributes approximately 30% of project costs in both cash and in kind for contract preparation, administration and technical oversight.  

Summary of FY 08 Contract Implementation:

FY 08 contract implementation will include at least one culvert survey and design which will be scheduled for implementation in 2009.  NPT, under a separate BPA-NPT contract of this project, will provide technical oversight and review to the NPNF during the design process.
