#  Details Concerning CCR-23524:

All proposed projects under 2007-231-00 EXP UPA Entiat Riparian (Contract#44290), were fully developed and implemented in Fall 2010. Project specific monitoring on sites previously planted sites under contract #44290, will identify the success and necessity of various planting techniques incorporated into restoration plans. Additionally, new project locations were identified in late fall 2010 during project (Contract#44290) implementation and Cascadia is currently working with those streamside landowners to develop restoration plans to be implemented in fall 2011.

The re-scheduling of funds is allowing the Cascadia Conservation District to extensively monitor conditions at existing sites through photo, growth and survival, shade, and weed control monitoring. If needed sites will receive physical removal of competing non-native vegetation, selective application of additional soil amendments, certified noxious weed-free wood chip mulch and browse protection. Additional native grass seeding and selective fill planting will also be used to maximize site growing conditions, by utilizing those species that appear well-adapted to local conditions based on monitoring results. The re-scheduling is also allowing for continued work with the landowners identified under current contract #49723 in late fall 2010, to develop and implement restoration plans in the fall 2011. (Note: Contracts # 44290 and 49723 had a two month overlap from 9/30/2010 through 11/30/2011.) Additionally, since this is the final year for the EXP UPA Entiat Riparian programmatic funds will be utilized to conduct an extensive outreach campaign to identify and work with additional streamside landowners for future riparian restoration efforts in the Entiat Watershed. Outreach includes but is not limited to the development and distribution  of an outreach brochure, Cascadia Conservation Quarterly Newsletter articles, Entiat Leader Newsletter articles, as well as directed calls. All efforts are diving by the GeoEngineers 2007, Entiat Riparian Restoration Prioritization Report and interested streamside landowners.

Conduct outreach to streamside landowner in the Entiat watershed in order to identify, select, and secure willing landowner to participate in riparian restoration projects. Once landowner agreements are in place this contract will be amended to include those work elements  and budget necessary to conduct those actual restoration work.

Riparian restoration work will  be accomplished in other portions of the Entiat River as a result of outreach and landowner communication.   While the outreach will begin as early as October 1, 2010 the actual restoration work will take place in the spring or fall of 2011.

Landowner outreach to explain the value of healthy riparian areas will be conducted watershed wide via newsletters, direct mailings and attending community events (Earth Day) as well as one-on-one communication taking place in person and on the phone.  This work will result in landowner agreements being secured with the landowners of the five sites where planting will take place and likely lead to additional sites.  We will also work with school groups to educate them on the functions of riparian areas and to allow them to assist in some planting at the sites.

A portion of this contract will contain a work element to allow maintenance and monitoring of restoration work in previous BPA contracts. Specifically, Tillicum and Indian Creeks, and all fall 2010 sites  Maintenance will include Noxious weed removal will be conducted at these sites via hand pulling,  irrigation systems repairs (Mom & Me Gardens, RM6, and Olin Ranch), replanting of non-survival to maintain 75% survival and success.

Continued project coordination, management and reporting will be done during the contract period so that we remain in compliance with the contract requirements.
