Contract Description:
The Joint Stock Assessment Project allows the Colville Confederated Tribes to input historical and current data into Microsoft Access to be sent to the Kalispel Tribe and compiled into the JSAP database.  The majority of the data previously available only in hard copy has been organized and made available in an electronic format.  Currently, electronic data is received from other projects and compatibility of data is ensured for use within the operating database.   The project will include data collected from lakes and streams in the Intermountain Province.  The work will be done by a Fisheries Technician IV under the direction of a supervisory biologist at the Colville Confederated Tribes Fish and Wildlife Department.

Colville Confederated Tribes Fish and Wildlife Department has collected data on fish habitat on all reservation lakes and streams in the Intermountain Province and have stored the information on hard copy for many years.  Particular emphasis has been given to those water bodies where redband rainbow trout, bull trout or westslope cutthroat trout are found or have previously existed and to lakes and streams that receive heavy angling pressure.  Compiling the data into a database allows fish managers to have access to this information that would have been difficult to obtain otherwise.  This data can then be used to assess the condition of fish habitat and provide insight into management needs in the Intermountain Province and other similar areas.

This project is related to the Colville Hatchery project and helps the Colville Tribal Hatchery biologists determine which bodies of water are best suited for redband rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout.  The relationship involves information exchange and coordination.  The project is also related to the Lake Roosevelt Rainbow Trout Habitat/Passage Improvement Project involving information exchange and coordination.
