Contract Description:
The Spokane Tribal Hatchery is one of 3 artificial production projects operated complementary of one another with the purpose of creating harvestable rainbow trout and kokanee salmon fisheries in Lake Roosevelt (Grand Coulee Dam Impoundment).  The other artificial production components include the Sherman Creek Hatchery and Lake Roosevelt Rainbow Trout Net Pen Projects.  The Spokane Tribe operates the Spokane Tribal Hatchery, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife operates the Sherman Creek Hatchery and the Rainbow Trout Net Pen Project is operated by a volunteer group coordinated through the Lake Roosevelt Development Association.  The current end hatchery rearing production goals are 850,000 triploid rainbow trout yearlings and 250,000 kokanee yearlings each with a target release size of 5 fish per pound (fpp) or larger.  Approximately 350,000 rainbows are transferred to the Sherman Creek Hatchery at 75 fish per pound (fpp), 450,000 rainbows are transferred at 15 fpp to Lake Roosevelt net pens and reared to approximately 5 fpp prior to release. The kokanee are reared on station until release.  All release are post reservoir drawdown to reduce entrainment potential.  Targeted release size is to reduce predation potential at initial release.
