Contract Description:
2014 marked the first production cycle of Sockeye smolts at the new Springfield Hatchery.   2015 shall mark the first production cycle of two brood year's of Sockeye at Springfield.   Hatchery staff will update inventory as equipment is received.  Care and maintenance of new buildings, fish rearing units, associated/support tools and equipment and vehicles will be a major work element during this contract period.

Water delivery systems include fixed speed and variable speed pumps, head-boxes with aeration equipment, and chiller.  Testing of these water delivery systems commenced during the previous contract period, and shall be an ongoing part of the project as necessary.

This contract period marks a shift from construction oversight, procurement, and the majority of water-up and testing activities to traditional fish culture activities.    Approximately 215,000  BY 2013 Sockeye Salmon are to be cultured from October 2014 through May 2015 at Springfield Hatchery.  These were received as eyed eggs in December 2013.   The resulting smolts are scheduled for release during the second week of May 2015.

Approximately 650,000-700,000 BY 2014 Sockeye are to be cultured from December 2014 through May 2016.  Eyed sockeye eggs are scheduled for receipt during December, 2014.  The resulting fry are to be incubated to the swim-up stage, then transferred to early rearing tanks until approximately 90-120 fpp.  The fingerlings will be marked and transferred to secondary rearing units for rearing to a project release size of 9-10  fpp.  Baseline data including survival, growth (monthly, growth units per temperature unit), feed conversion, etc.  will be collected, reported monthly, and used to set-up future brood year's projections.

Hatchery personnel will attend and participate in Stanley Basis Sockeye Technical Oversight Committee (SBSTOC) and program specific meetings as  program needs necessitate and time allows.
