Contract Description:
We will participate in a collaborative project to validate the fish community monitoring protocol for the mainstem Willamette River, sampling fish communities in the mainstem in summer 2017 using the same protocol of the 2011-2013 fish community monitoring project.  We will conduct repeat sampling of randomly selected slices in the lower, middle, and upper reach of the Willamette River mainstem. The repeated samples will be used to assess variability in habitat use by native and non-native fish of different life stages, and to determine the repeatability of sampling with boat electrofishing and backpack electrofishing in the mainstem Willamette River. OSU and ODFW will then assist Jim Peterson with quantitative analysis in 2018 and 2019 under future BPA funding. We will also conduct sampling in three tributaries (Middle Fork, McKenzie, Santiam) by raft and backpack electrofishing.
