Contract Description:
This project on South Scappoose Creek in the Scappoose Bay Watershed addresses key salmon-production limiting factors identified in multiple regional and local salmon recovery plans, including the Lower Columbia River and Upper Willamette River Conservation and Recovery Plans (ODFW 2011). The project will restore natural habitat on 0.7 miles of the creek and reconnect 3 side channels to open 3.3 acres of off-channel habitat. Project will provide added stream complexity through bank restoration, remove invasive species, and replant with native vegetation on over 5 acres. Project outcomes support Upper Willamette Spring Chinook, Lower Columbia River Fall Chinook and coho salmon, plus Steelhead and Columbia River Chum species by extending high quality, lower-watershed habitat beyond Scappoose Bay and Multnomah Channel directly above tidal reaches. Significant project support is being provided by the City of Scappoose, local landowners, Columbia Soil and Water Conservation District, and ODFW.
