Contract Description:
Bowers Rock State Park is an undeveloped state park located east of Albany, OR on the main-stem of the Willamette (RM 122-124). The park is managed by Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, and is approximately 568 acres.

The nearly 40 acre gravel pond at Bowers Rock lacks connectivity to the main-stem Willamette, and the east/west sloughs are lacking connectivity due to three undersized culverts and a low water ford in need of improvement that restricts flow.

The gravel pond will be connected to the main-stem Willamette to improve access by juvenile salmonids. The inlet channel will take advantage of an existing floodplain channel adjacent to the southwest corner of the pond. While the outlet channel connecting the gravel pond to Coon Creek will be a broad swale intended to disperse flow and reduce water velocities and scour, rather than a defined channel. In addition to the channel construction: two undersized and failing culverts will be replaced, one low water ford will be improved, and one undersized culvert will be removed to increase fish access to the Willamette River floodplain.

Project Partners include OPRD, River Design Group, Calapooia Watershed Council, BPA, Integrated Resource Management, DOGAMI, Benton SWCD, Intel Corporation, BEF, & Coca Cola.
