WDFW will use two research vessels to conduct the adults survey. A third research vessel is dedicated to continuing setline stock assessments with ODFW in the Columbia River between Bonneville and McNary dams.  These are larger research vessels that can sample on the Columbia River, often in inclement weather.

ODFW's new vessel to be purchased under this award to be fitted with a cabin and other shade protection adequate to meet ODFW Heat Illness Prevention Plan (OAR 437-002-0156), generator, hydraulic pot hauler and davit arm, hydraulic bow drum (reel) for gillnets, dive door, and wash-down pump, twin outboard engines, trailer in order to deploy setlines, and gillnets for YOY, conduct field sampling, and hold
sturgeon for sampling.

The current back up sturgeon research boat will be either retained as a project back-up boat, used for other downriver research and monitoring,  or properly disposed of.
