Contract Description:
The ultimate goal of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) Sockeye Salmon Captive Broodstock Program is to re-establish Sockeye Salmon runs to Sawtooth Valley waters. In the near term, our goal is to maintain genetic resources unique to Snake River Sockeye Salmon, prevent species extinction, and rebuild the population in natal lakes. The IDFG and the Stanley Basin Sockeye Technical Oversight Committee (SBSTOC) have agreed to adhere to a program of prudent broodstock management to minimize loss of genetic diversity and the potential influence of domestication. In cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, annual spawning designs are developed to minimize the risk of inbreeding and to maximize the distribution of genetic information across families. The SBSTOC will develop annual release plans for juveniles and adult fish from the program.
Sockeye Salmon Captive Broodstock Program Objectives and Tasks:

1.   Develop captive broodstocks from Redfish Lake Sockeye Salmon, culture broodstocks and produce progeny for reintroduction.

2.    Utilize genetic analysis to discern the origin of natural and hatchery produced Sockeye Salmon through PBT identification and SNP"S technology to provide maximum effectiveness in their utilization within the spawning design and reintroduction to Sawtooth Valley lakes.

3.    Transfer technology through participation in the technical oversight committee process, provide written activity reports, and participate in essential program management and planning activities.

Eagle Fish Hatchery Operation and Maintenance activities include:

1.    Annual repair and maintenance of equipment and buildings to provide a safe rearing and working environment for program staff and the general public.

2.    Annual repair and maintenance of three residences and one dormitory for staff living on-site at Eagle Hatchery.

3.    Annual maintenance of land associated with Eagle Hatchery; such as facility lawns, landscaping, irrigation and related equipment.

4.    Annual repair and maintenance of water delivery systems for fish rearing; such as pumps, motors, chillers, heat exchangers, supply line plumbing, degassing towers.

5.    Annual repair and maintenance of large equipment such as; fish transport vehicles and transport tanks, tractors, lawn mowers, fleet vehicles.
