Contract Description:
The USGS Pacific Northwest eDNA Laboratory, part of the USGS Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center in Boise, Idaho, will provide eDNA analytical services for a study of bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) eDNA in salmon shipping barges.

The study will test the hold water for the amount of bull trout eDNA present. Water will be collected and filtered on 20 trips with following experimental design:  0 bull trout, 1 bull trout, 5 bull trout, and 10 bull trout held in pens suspended in the salmon holds.  The 3 treatments (1, 5, and 10 bull trout) will each be repeated on 5 trips.

Triplicate water samples will be filtered from the hold at the start and end of each of these trips. The control treatment (0 bull trout) will be repeated on 5 trips. Triplicate water samples will be filtered from the hold at start, end, and at four additional locations on each of these control treatment trips. One field blank of distilled water will be filtered at either the start or end of each trip, assigned randomly, of each trip (20 total).
