Contract Description:
Goals and Objectives

Provide year around passage for aquatic native species at the Green Valley Ranch Irrigation Diversion with focus on ESA listed species, update irrigation screening for modern compliance, decrease potential for overuse of water and provide means of measurement for operators and irrigators, and promote natural stream processes including sediment transfer through the reach.

Removing the current diversion structure and replacing it with a roughened riffle weir will address passage issues (1.1 Anthropogenic Barriers) by providing year around upstream and downstream access for all life stages of aquatic species. This will also improve 6.1 Bed and Channel Form and improve sediment transport (7.2 Increased Sediment Quantity).  Installation of the headgate will provide flow regulation for operators and regulators. A measuring device will allow operators and regulators to monitor use of water allowed by current water rights. Together they will address 9.2 Decreased Water Quantity. Furthermore, potential increase in instream water may assist in buffering stream temperatures addressing 8.1 Temperature.

An existing irrigation pump and intake will be moved below an existing ODFW screen providing protection against potential take of listed species. Associated actions of wood placement, regrading in the vicinity of the diversion, inclusion of an overflow swale, and planting will address limiting factors 4.1 Riparian Vegetation, 5.2 Floodplain Condition, and 6.2 Instream Structural Complexity.

Partners include, ODFW, BPA and Grande Ronde Model Watershed.
