Contract Description:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Mid-Columbia River Fishery Resource Office will conduct a component of the Entiat Effectiveness Monitoring Study that will evaluate fish habitat utilization associated with in-stream restoration work planned for 1.2 miles (approximately 2000 meters) of the lower Entiat River referred to as the "Bridge to Bridge" reach.

USFWS will draw upon existing staff (with prior snorkeling experience) to conduct this work. This means however that their other scheduled work obligations will have to be delayed or back filled by other office personnel. To minimize disruption to the office we therefore intend to complete the sampling for each period within a five-day time frame. The successful completion of this scope of work is dependent on the completion of landowner coordination by Chelan County Conservation District (see contract 00018223) and habitat surveys by Terraqua, Inc. (see contract CR-65529).  USFWS will coordinate with CCCD and Terraqua to insure concurrent sampling schedules and consistent sample sites.

Study design, coordination, and analysis of the Entiat Effectiveness Monitoring Study, including the fish habitat utilization component, is being overseen by the Upper Columbia Regional Technical Team and NOAA Fisheries.  This Study will be implemented for 10 years beginning in 2005.  This minimum time frame is necessary to account for at least two salmonid generations, to capture pre and post-treatment monitoring, interannual variability, long-term channel adjustments to the restoration project, and possible changes to restoration project features that might arise from periodic factors like large runoff events or forest fires.
