Contract Description:
The goal of the Grande Ronde Basin Spring Chinook Salmon Captive Broodstock Program is to prevent extinction of the spring Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha populations in Catherine Creek, upper Grande Ronde River and Lostine River, Oregon.  This will provide a future basis to reverse the decline in stock abundance of Grande Ronde River Chinook salmon to ensure a high probability of population persistence well into the future, once the causes of basin wide population declines have been addressed.  A coincident goal is to maintain the genetic diversity of indigenous artificially propagated Chinook salmon populations and that of wild Chinook salmon populations.
