The beneficial use of surface water from the Yakima River and groundwater from six wells is limited to the terms and conditions stipulated in the Temporary Permits issued by the Washington Department of Ecology, Central Regional Office, Yakima, Washington.  the original permits issued by Ecology dated April 7, 2997, were amended for both surface and ground water use in April of 2002 and again in June 2007.  these permits require a number of task be accomplished including weekly well field monitoring.  The well field monitoring program was developed by CH2M Hill and is carried out by the hatchery staff at the Cle Elum Science & Research Facility (CESRF) via data collection and reporting.  (CH2M Hill is under separate contract to perform analysis and semi-annual reports using this information - YKFP Design and Construction 1988-115-25).

Well water usage is monitoring weekly, well meter readings, and the data are submitted by the hatchery manager on a quarterly basis.  Surface water usage, reported in the form of average hatchery flows to the facility is also turned in at the same time with the well water usage reports.

The hatchery staff conduct weekly groundwater monitoring and send reports to Jeff Randall, Hydro geologist of Ch2M Hill for analysis.  Anna Hoselton, Water Resources Specialist at WA Department of Ecology, also received the groundwater usage reports.
