Contract Background Section:

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department), Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), and Nez Perce Tribe (NPT) are working together under the Northeast Oregon Hatcheries Project (NEOH) to restore Grande Ronde, Imnaha and Walla Walla salmon and steelhead.  The Department's recent NEOH efforts have focused on planning and implementation of the Grande Ronde Basin Endemic Spring Chinook Supplementation Program (GRBESCSP) to support recovery of these populations as directed by the National Marine Fisheries Service currently known as NOAA Fisheries.  The GRBESCSP incorporates a number of components including setting aside the Wenaha and Minam basins as natural production reserves, supplementing Lostine, Catherine Creek and upper Grande Ronde chinook populations using captive and conventional hatchery broodstock techniques, and testing the potential to naturalize a hatchery stock to restore chinook to Lookingglass Creek.
