Contract Description:
This contract is for the purchase of radio telemetry tags for fall chinook salmon.   The actual fish tagging will be done by the USGS/USFWS cooperators for Project 2002-032-00.  No Environmental clearance is required for this contract (although the use of the Work Element-158 indicates that it does) .  This SOW does not require Work Elements 132-Produce Annual (Progress) Report, 185-Produce Pisces Status Report or 119-Manage and Administer Project.

Wild subyearling fall Chinook salmon or hatchery fish of Lyons Ferry origin will be radio tagged and PIT tagged to examine changes in migratory behavior during the out migration season with the anticipation of identifying mechanisms that contribute to some fish adopting a reservoir-type life history.  In FY09, USGS will use 0.43 g radio tags to obtain better detection of tags compared to FY07.  Fish will be tagged on two separate occasions: once in July and once in August.  July and August are the months when the most significant migratory delay and mortality occurs in the lower Clearwater River.  Radio tagging will enable us to collect detailed location and fate information from mobile tracking and PIT tagging will provide detection information at dams after their radio tags expire.  Tagging will occur at Hog Island on the Clearwater River, which is about 10 miles upstream of the confluence and about 5 miles upstream of our first study reach.
