Contract Description:
This contract begins on-the-ground work to improve fish passage within a six mile reach of the Mill Creek Flood Control Channel. Within the project reach, there is a 2.5 mile section of concrete lined channel (flume section). The remaining sections (above and below the flume section) are open bottomed channel with channel-spanning stabilizers (sills) for energy dissipation.

To date, a passage assessment identified the location and type of fish passage barriers, and passage designs have been developed to the 30% level for the entire project reach. A 1:8 scale physical model was constructed to test the performance of passage designs in the flume section. The model study will be completed by the end of 2010.

This contract provides match funds to two SRFB grants for two construction projects that will occur at three sites. The Sills Passage project will install passage structures on four of the channel spanning stabilizers at Tausick Way. The Flume Transitions project will reconstruct fishways at each end of the concrete flume section (at Roosevelt St and 9th Ave).
