The Crystal Springs Planning and Operations/Maintenance project is an ongoing effort to plan, construct and operate a fish hatchery to rear Snake River Spring/Summer Chinook and Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout for the Salmon River and Upper Snake River basins, respectively.  Currently the project is undergoing the Three-Step Review process for new artificial production facilities, with the upcoming contract year involving completion of the final hatchery design, environmental compliance, and potentially, the approval to construct the facility.  Snake River Chinook salmon will be released in two separate watersheds that are anadromous tributaries to the Salmon River, Yankee Fork Salmon River and Panther Creek.  Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout, native to the Snake River above Shoshone Falls, will be released on the Fort Hall Reservation and evaluated for effectiveness.  In addition to the hatchery facility, two separate satellite facilities are proposed for trapping, spawning and acclimation activities on Yankee Fork and Panther Creek.  The upcoming contract year will effectively plan hatchery production goals, release strategies, facility design, construction schedule and performance metrics for all species reared at Crystal Springs.
