Contract Description:
This project includes habitat improvement on Pond Series 2 to increase the habitat quantity and quality of that area.  This will be accomplished by creating a riparian flood-plain zone along existing connecting channels, converting some of the pond area to channels, removing check structures and lowering the invert of channel areas that become seasonally dewatered, adding wood habitat structures, and planting native vegetation in the disturbed areas.  Material will be removed from the areas adjacent to channel sections and check structures to create flood-plain/riparian areas.  Those tailings will be placed in existing ponds to convert them from ponds to stream channels, which are more often selected by Chinook and steelhead juveniles.  Removing the check-structures and lowering the channel invert to ensure the channel remains passable will allow fish year-around access to the areas, and placement of wood will create habitat that will benefit juvenile Chinook and steelhead throughout the year.  Planting riparian vegetation will help the disturbed area recover quickly and will provide debris input to aid in stream primary production. Implementation of this project is scheduled for fall 2013.
