Contract Description:
This project includes habitat improvement on the Yankee Fork at Preachers Cove to increase the habitat quantity and quality of that area.  This will be accomplished by building habitat structures consisting of wood, rock, and spawning gravel at 11 locations, removing a flood-plain berm, and planting vegetation in areas disturbed by construction.  Habitat structures will provide resting cover for adults, will create channel roughness that will help retain and sort spawning gravels and activate the flood-plain, and will provide habitat for juvenile Chinook and steelhead during both summer and winter.  Removal of the flood-plain berm (old road embankment) will ensure that high flows are able to continue on the flood-plain rather than being artificially routed back to the mainstem Yankee Fork.  Planting riparian vegetation will help the disturbed area recover quickly and will provide debris input to aid in stream primary production. Implementation of this project is scheduled for fall 2014.
