Contract Description:
This project was initiated on July 1, 1984 under the BPA contract and allows for initial landowner contacts, agreement development, project design, budgeting, and implementation for anadromous fish habitat improvement on privately owned lands within the John Day Basin.

The purpose of the John Day Fish Habitat Enhancement Program is to enhance production of indigenous wild stocks of spring chinook and summer steelhead within the sub basin through habitat protection, enhancement and fish passage improvements.

In work period 3-1-2016 thru 2-29-2017 the fish habitat program will construct approximately 25.4 miles of riparian protection fence, 325 acres and 13.50 miles of creeks protected, coordination with 4 landowners (Martin, Ecotrust, USFS/permittee, and Pryor).  The actual number of stream miles protected is probably higher, due to sinuosity and ground truthing this summer will correct any missed judgments.  Construction will include approximately 1.0 miles of riparian fence on Fields Creek/Martin property tributary to the John Day River, 5.0 miles of riparian fence on Ecotrust property on Desolation Creek tributary of the North Fork John Day River, 11.40 miles riparian fence on Tex and Murderer's Creek on USFS property tributary of the Upper John Day River, and 8.0 miles riparian fence on the Tenmile Creek on Pryor property tributary of the Lower John Day River.  There will be approximately 42 gates and 15 watergaps constructed on riparian fence project sites.

An OWEB application has been applied for on all projects asking for 50% of funds.  The USFS has also provided $28,000 towards Tex and Murderer's Creek projects.
