Contract Status:

Contract Description:
The objective of this project is to monitor status and trends of the steelhead population in the Toppenish Creek watershed.  We intend to use a redd count census conducted on all known spawning habitats in the basin to obtain an index of steelhead spawner abundance.  Redd counts will also be used to track changes in steelhead spatial distribution and effectiveness monitoring for stream restoration projects (e.g. decommissioning and designs on NF Toppenish, BDA structures in wetland meadow comlexes, NF Logy Creek, Panther Creek etc.).

We will evaluate the steelhead abundance estimate by using radio tracking data collected under the Yakima VSP project during years 2011-2014 and PIT tag antennae 2011-present.

We will operate rotary screw traps continuously capturing the entire outmigration season to obtain an estimate of steelhead juvenile outmigrant abundance using a stratified mark-recapture model.  Survival using PIT tags and population demographics (length, weight, age, condition factor) will be evaluated.
