Contract Description:
The goal of this project is to asses nutrient availability within freshwater trophic levels of the Twisp River Watershed. Nutrient supplementation through specific prescriptions could follow if nutrients levels are shown to be limiting as a result of reduced, low levels of natural production within the basin.

This statement of work includes work elements for tasks to be completed in FY 2010. Sampling for primary and secondary production will take place monthly, April - November (though this contract covers June- November). Sample sites will include another replicate transect 100 meters downstream where some of the sampling metrics will be measured to increase replication. Increased duration, decreased frequency and better spatial representation was based on ecological representation and statistical tests of 08-09 data, looking at variability and sample size efficiencies.

Bioenergetic modeling and stable isotope analysis will be developed further during this contract period. Developing methods and the technical design details will involve utilizing the expertise of staff at the University of Idaho. Our plan are to use existing  knowledge at the university to develop design parameters that will shape the way we utilize these analysis methods. In addition to the design details, U OF I has the ability to do complex lab analysis associated with stable isotopes samples.

The additional sampling metrics involving ESA listed fish species requires research permits from NOAA and USFWS. These permit applications are lengthy with long processing times. These permits are an absolute necessity to the goals of this project and are a primary task in the SOW.  Furthermore, the permits are pre-requisites for being able to respond to the ISRP's proposal review comments in subsequent years/contracts.
